A Las Vegas news station reported on Thursday the Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters following the April 12 standoff with heavily armed agents of the federal Bureau of Land Management.
“The I-Team has confirmed that FBI agents have launched a formal investigation into alleged death threats, intimidation and possible weapons violations,†KLAS-TV reported.
Police said “they feared for their lives that day because of the assembled firepower, and because many in the crowd had pointed weapons at officers, taunted them, told them they should be ready to die.â€
Assistant Sheriff Joe Lombardo told KLAS-TV “federal authorities are conducting an investigation and I am pretty confident it is going to go into the future.†He said “there is definitely going to be consequences†for Bundy supporters who responded to the BLM presence by carrying firearms.
Lombardo refused to tell the news station if guns were pointed at police and federal officials during the standoff. Bundy supporters responded to requests by KLAS-TV by stating weapons were not pointed at police officers. BLM agents, they insisted, pointed weapons at them.
Federal law makes it illegal to point a firearm at agents and officials.
On April 10, Infowars.com reported the assault on a cancer victim and a pregnant woman by BLM agents. “I just saw federal agents throw my aunt on the ground, I saw my cousin get tased three times, I saw them pull dogs and sick it on a pregnant woman…. I got hit by multiple vehicles because I wanted a couple of questions…. this is America and they are the aggressors, we are not the aggressors,†a Bundy relative said following the incident near the intersection of Gold Butte Road and state Route 170, a few miles from the Bundy ranch.
Despite the investigation by the FBI with the cooperation of Las Vegas and Clark County police, local residents praised Bundy supporters for their response to the BLM’s over reach last month.
“I want to tell every one of them militia thank you,†one resident said. “Because not one of our government officials, not one of our sheriffs or Metro[politian Police Department] would have saved us that day. They didn’t save us that day,†KVVU-YV in Las Vegas reported on May 2.
“Town hall attendees offered no evidence of the inappropriate actions described by opponents of the militia’s presence. Instead, most agreed the protesters were doing the job authorities refused to do,†B. Christopher Agee wrote on May 6. “A council member explained that, if local law enforcement officers had been performing their duties, the militia would have been unneeded.â€
